Writing for the 21st Century - 2024

Clear and effective written communication is an essential component of every professional toolkit. However, refining these skills within the workplace is a challenge few can overcome. This course aims to equip participants with the tools for well-informed and highly impactful reading and writing practices, applicable both within and outside the professional sphere. Designed as a workshop-based program, it serves as a comprehensive solution for the writing aspirations of busy professionals across various industries.

Course length: 9 weeks | 9 modules + Final Assignment (3 hours)

Faculty

Anuja Chauhan is a best selling Indian author, advertiser and screenwriter. As a writer, she is known for The Zoya Factor (2008), Battle For Bittora (2010), Those Pricey Thakur Girls (2013), The House That BJ Built (2015), Baaz (2017), and Club You To Death (2021). She worked at the JWT advertising agency in India for over 17 years, becoming vice-president and executive creative director before resigning in 2010 to pursue a full-time literary career.

She contributes to the fortnightly column, “Nine Rasas”, in The New Indian Express and previously worked with the MHRD on a new comprehensive language policy for India. She is an alumnus of Presidency College, Calcutta, and Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, where she wrote a PhD thesis on Bharata’s Natyashastra. She is the author of three novels: The Vague Woman’s Handbook, The Weight Loss Club and Friends from College, a version of which was serialised in The Telegraph for forty-two weeks.

Madhavi Menon

Professor of English, Ashoka University

Madhavi Menon is an eminent theorist and scholar of gender, sexuality, politics, and identity. 

She joined Ashoka University in 2013 as one of its founding faculty members. She went on to establish the university’s Centre for Gender & Sexuality Studies (CSGS), which is the first of its kind in India. Previously, she was a professor at Ithaca College and American University

Most prominently known for her work on queer theory and Shakespeare, she has also edited the collection Shakesqueer and written three books on Shakespeare and sexuality. She is also most recently the author of Infinite Varieties: A History of Desire in India and Law of Desire: Rulings on Sex & Sexuality in India. 

In addition to being Director of CSGS, she is the Director of the Ph.D. programme in English and Professor of English at Ashoka University.
